Portsmouth celebrates opening of parking garage
PORTSMOUTH -- City officials and staff on Wednesday morning celebrated the grand opening of the new five-story, 600-space Foundry Place Garage in the North End.
City Manager John Bohenko acknowledged with a smile that the effort to locate and build the city’s second downtown garage did not move swiftly.
“I started working on this project in 2003 with the Economic Development Commission,” Bohenko said shortly before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “That was 15 years ago, and I was in my 40s.”
Bohenko predicted the new garage, which is on a new city street called Foundry Place off Deer Street, will help the downtown continue to develop outward.
“This will move us forward as we continue to have some positive development, not only in the West End but the North End,” he said.
